  Meet our Cosplay College Professors!

Tanglwyst de Holloway, aka Tonya Adolfson, teaches panels on everything from making your own patterns to basic armor creation, from character creation to proper flirting. She's been a professional costumer since 1988 and has worked in the costume shops of Southern Utah University and the Utah Shakespearean Festival. Tangl has done wigs, make up, props and movement for the stage, and turned her impressive set of skills to teaching at Society for Creative Anachronism events. She fell in love with Steampunk while doing panels at conventions, and has thrown herself fully into this intriguing genre. Luckily, many of her skills apply very well to the re-imaginative world of Steampunk and she adores the innovation and freedom Steampunk allows.

Eric Smart is a tinker of creation. His specialty is prop building, predominately out of wood. He has learned over the years how to utilize materials to help create replicated props. He has been picking up his skills from his father who started as a carpenter when he was 14 and as an individual that is a jack of all trades. Eric started in 2006 by creating the Magun from Final Fantasy Unlimited and has been going ever since. Some creations he has under his belt are: the Sitar and keyblades from Kingdom Hearts, the buster sword from Final Fantasy 7, Soul scythe from Soul Eater, the Ax Bass from Adventure Time and some original Steampunk creations of his own.

Who is this fine piece of lady-meat you see here? Well, this, friends, is Caitlyn Bridges: Connoisseur of Fine Makeup and Even Finer SFX. She’s far from a professional, but she’s been dabbling in the righteous art of makeuping for about three years now and has accumulated a variety of skills and techniques, mostly from YouTube videos, and maybe from some dubious back-alley operations whose sponsors will remain unnamed. Caitlyn can cover everything from beauty makeup (like those rocking honeys you see on the cover of People), to gorey, bloody, oozing, pus-ridden makeup that’s just crazy-nasty. A miniscule budget has kept her from the glorious altar of professional makeup products, so she improvises often to get the job done. The green-skinned Orions from Star Trek, Batman’s Harley Quinn, as well as numerous zombies and scarred-up faces, and even facial hair, can be chalked up on the list of makeup Caitlyn has done.

Borneo, as a convention chairman has been exposed to all manner of cosplay technologies and techniques for achieving the perfect cosplay.  For the last decade he has gathered as much information he could about the creation process and how to make it cost effective and functional.   He will be joining us to share his knowledge of the 'science of cosplay'.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:

Armor Options for All Day Wear - Tanglwyst de Holloway
Explore molded paper, Wonderflex and Foam armor for alternatives to metal and hard plastic when it comes to all day wear of armor.
You'd be amazed what these things can do!

Building and Fitting a Corset - Tanglwyst de Holloway
Corsetry has a bad name.
The uneducated think of the wasp-waisted abominations that crushed women's internal organs. Others think of the sexy bondage option. But good corsetry is like a good bra: Supportive, flattering and essential to several types of costuming. This will help you identify a good from a bad corset and how to make one.

Clothes v. Costumes: Surviving Your Creativity - Tanglwyst de Holloway
You finally have the perfect outfit and accessories and you get yourself zipped up in your shiny polyester uni-suit with the jet pack, the tall boots and the full utility belt. You look amazing! Perfect! You pull your hood up and put your helmet on. You step into the hallway, strut through the admiring crowds of con-folk ...aaaaand now you have to pee.

Cosplay Behind the Camera - Tim Boothby
Discussing the basics of cosplay photography from the photographer's perspective including some dos and don'ts to keep everyone out of trouble.

Cosplay in Front of the Camera - Tim Boothby
Discussing the basics of cosplay photography from the cosplayer's perspective including things that are good to know before you step in front of the camera.

Cosplay on a Budget - Liz Stone
Want to do your favorite Cosplay but money is tight? There is still a way! This panel will explain some of the best ways to make Cosplay while on a budget. It will cover everything from how to dye wigs to making props out of every day household items. Bring paper and a pencil, you might just want to take notes on some of these exciting ideas.

Cosplaying and Convention Rules - Jamie Parker
So, you like to cosplay, but is that prop allowed in the door? Learn how to check the rules for the conventions you attend, what to do if you've got to leave some of your costume behind at the door, and how to talk to staff if your cosplay gets some unwanted attention from other attendees or guests.

Furries! - Jessica Sweet
Ever wonder how you could be a better furry? Come learn how with the simple do's and dont's of fursuiting and how to be the best!

Intro to Steampunk Outfit / Persona Workshop - Eric Smart
New to the world of Steampunk? Don't know how to get started with your outfit / persona? This panel will help point people in the right direction by providing examples of Victorian outfits and the many pieces that make them up. Also how to come up with and create Steampunk props to fit your persona and much more

Long Fitted Coats in Period - Tanglwyst de Holloway
Long sexy coats have ALWAYS been in style. From the Mongol tribes to the Matrix (tm), from Egyptians and Aztecs to Bleach (tm), every culture and every time period has had 'em. See what it takes to get one of your own, and what style will look best on you.

Military Cosplay - Bryan Currid
Tips and techniques for cosplaying SpecOps and Military

Prop Building 101 - Eric Smart
Swords, guns and crazy wonky things that you have no idea what they do. Gather around and learn techniques, tools and materials that you can use to create props for your cosplaying needs. The panel will also show how to create these props to correct proportionate size.

EVENT DESCRIPTIONS:

The Costume Swap
Tired of wearing the same old costume? Have some extra fabric you can't seem to get rid of? Or have you been eyeballing that beautiful hat that someone else is just dying to sell?
Come to the Costume Swap!
An open market for anyone to buy, sell, trade, or just wander around, this area will be open for a VERY LIMITED TIME during the Cosplay College. Anyone can bring costume-related items to display/trade/sell while the Swap is going on, and space is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Please be aware that we cannot reserve spaces, or hold items for Swap participants. Set-up and teardown time will also be fixed, and any participants not adhering to the schedule will be asked to move their business elsewhere when the Swap has ended.
Disclaimer: Due to the nature of this event, Fandemonium can not be held responsible for any transactions that take place inside of the Swap. We do not ask or receive compensation from any participant. Buy/sell/trade at your own risk!

Fashion Revue
Cosplayers of every age, size, and skill level: Come and show us your work! You
can be a beginner, or a veteran costumer; everyone is welcome! Show off your costume
to your fellow peers and explain the process you took to get to the final product. A board
of professors will then provide you with helpful tips, comments, and suggestions as to
how you can further improve your skills.
There are no winners or losers; this is merely the community helping the
community and receiving tips all around. Everyone can benefit from it!
If you choose not to wear your costume, then you can simply bring it in and show
it off. If you are unable to bring your costume at all, then a picture of your costume will
do just as well! (As long as it's a good quality image)
